Star Citizen: Wuotan Plant

The Wuotan plant is an asset created for the dark, gloomy and blue toned biomes of Pyro 1, with the intention of contributing to the visual narrative of an alien, aggressive and hostile environment. This asset was made with the intention of looking strange, uncomfortable, dangerous and almost animal like, a lot of times resembling a curled worm with huge teeth. However, it doesn't mean that there can't be beauty to it, since during the night time the unpleasant nature of it's features are hidden by darkness and it's bioluminescent antennas take hold of the frame, making them feel like strange purple fireflies against the dark sky and landscape.

This asset was created with a very obvious intention of making it look odd and strange, making it feel like a succulent plant while at the same time resemble an animal, which was achieved by a strong, rounded and smooth silhouette, as well as a mix of materials of textures that range from an outer shell that feel like an encrusted, thick and harsh skin, as well as slimy flesh-like surfaces on the interior

The Wuotan fruit is an in-game harvestable which resembles a parasitic egg on the outside but a delicious and succulent alien fruit on the inside. This part of the asset was created with a huge contribute from Sebastian Schroeder, which created a very cool and useful Houdini tool that generated the core of the fruit based on the input of the outer sculpted shell, generating a very well integrated highpoly core to go alongside the sculpted highpoly shell of the asset. The asset was then baked and texture as part of a traditional workflow approach.
